No Such Army proved a rewarding experience as a first time author. The process of researching and publishing the book, followed by book signings and speaking engagements afforded me an opportunity to meet and share the history of Sherman’s Carolinas Campaign with many individuals. My biggest gain is the friendship of co-author, Maj. Mark Smith, USA (Ret) and noted Civil War historians Eric Wittenberg and Dr. Mark Bradley. These gentlemen are a large part of how the Lord truly blessed me with this project. Two years later as the excitement of the book’s release fades from memory, I know in a small measure I have helped preserve the rich Civil War history of my beloved home state of North Carolina.
"Their account is by the far the most thorough and detailed of the Battle of Averasboro, and it is complemented by a set of excellent tactical maps."
Dr. Mark L. Bradley,
author of Last Stand in the Carolinas:
The Battle of Bentonville
"Told from the soldier’s point-of-view, this profusely illustrated book with photographs and maps and illustrations drawn by Col. Darrell Combs, USMC (Ret.), is a captivating read. An essential purchase for academic and public libraries with an interest in the Civil War, esp. in Georgia and the Carolinas."
R. Neil Scott,
Middle Tennessee State University
"No Such Army should be considered the definitive treatment of the subject period and an essential volume for the bookshelf of any reader intended in the 1865 Carolinas Campaign."
Drew Wagenhoffer
"Objective and well-researched, No Such Army is the one we’ve all been waiting for."

"The entire book demonstrates an even-handed approach toward both armies, which deserves praise and emulation."
